Went swimming this morning for a change. I realised that I can't swim properly anymore. I know what I'm supposed to be doing but I can't. For example you are supposed to breath out underwater so that when you turn you head you can breath in. However, despite breathing out I still had loads more air left when I turned my head and ended up almost swallowing the pool. So I had to keep my head out of the water which is quite hard work. Still, it's quite a good work out more so in a way than the gym.
Hopefully soon I'll get back to being about to swim large distances as I did many moons ago.

I had a similar experience about a year ago. A lady of at least 70 glided past me at double my speed. I can't work out how she was managing to swim at all to be honest - at the time I seemed to be swallowing then spitting out the entire swimming pool with each stroke.
Keep it up! Sounds like you might be in danger of catching the "exercise bug" if you haven't already caught it.
Well done, fish. Can you believe it is only three months since you walked the Pennine Way - hundreds of miles. Which means you have great stamina. And are fitter than most people!

It just means you have more room for improvement. The variety of exercise you do also helps from not becoming bored with exercising. I would also be careful about the "exercise bug", I caught this after joining FMS a few years ago. To put that in perspective in less than a week I am doing my 5th ever marathon.
Re the swimming, aren't you susposed to keep your head until all the breath is gone and then take a deep breath. Say every 3/4 stokes or is that called sinking?
